Alissa is a UX Designer, with experience in a broad range of roles from research, to synthesis and ideation, to prototyping and design. She’s used UX and design thinking methodologies to deliver on business objectives for companies from startups to global enterprise clients, through work in agencies and as an independent consultant. Alissa started teaching UX Design in 2017, and has since found a passion in teaching and mentoring others on the journey to achieve business goals in a more human-centred way.
Alissa has always been fascinated with the interaction between systems and people, and her business degree in Information Systems Design could be called a UX education before the term existed. She grew up in small-town Wisconsin, launched her career in Minneapolis, Minnesota, travelled for two years to 40+ countries, and landed in Sydney, Australia, where she now lives with her partner in Bondi Beach.
In every project, her approach is to understand the full picture – the user, the organization, the team, and the existing systems – to propose the best possible approach and solution. She will gather insights and requirements from stakeholders, create a plan, and execute it. Sometimes this involves workshops, strategy sessions, quantitative and qualitative research, wireframes, user testing, and an agile approach to launching and testing features. And sometimes there’s not the need or time for it all, and she can work with that too.
