What is a Product Line? Definition or Meaning

Posted by Bizversity

A product line is a collection of offerings from a company. They may be closely related but could be lower in price or differ in colour, flavour, texture or a variety of other factors. At the end of the day, all these products belong to the same brand but could be marketed under different names.

For example…

Take the supermarket’s own range of products on sale. They may have various names for the same type of product, like desserts. The product lines could be a Gold range, or a more expensive, exclusive offering and a No Frills range, a cheaper alternative. Either way, the sales from both brand names would contribute to the company’s earnings. The company can do further analysis to determine which product line is doing better and add to or repeal it.
