What is Stock? Definition or Meaning

Posted by Bizversity

Stock, on one hand, can refer to goods that are stored in a business’s inventory, as in, when you ask a retailer if they have a particular product in stock. On the other hand, stocks are shares or securities that you trade on a stock market.

For example…

When Joe wanted to establish a web presence of his plumbing supplies store, he had to link his inventory system to the website to accurately represent the stock he had. In the other meaning of the term ‘stock’, Joe decided to buy some shares in the Taps R Us, the publicly trading company on the Australian Stock Exchange, hoping the business would do well and he could reap the benefits through big dividends.
