What is Target Marketing? Definition or Meaning

Posted by Bizversity

Target marketing involves getting intimate with your customers! Not in the romantic sense but in terms of your knowledge about them. Their hobbies, interests and other demographics such as age, occupation, cultural background are all factors that can be investigated in order to market your product or service based on these specific interests.

For example…

Brett has just created a new type of fertiliser for use with common household indoor plants. To promote his market to a wide range of audiences, he employs target marketing techniques. Through surveys, he finds that the average house owner is aged 30-80 and it is females and those who are working part-time or are retired who are interested in indoor house fertiliser. Using such specific knowledge, Brett is able to target his advertisements through social media by matching the customers’ profile with his ideal customers’ details.
